The Concorde made its last commercial flight.
American, Gene Roddenberry, died at the age of 70. He was the creator of the Star Trek universe. Before Star Trek he had worked as an aircraft pilot for Pan Am and as a policeman in Los Angeles.
English footballer, Wayne Rooney, was born in Liverpool.
Russian oil tycoon, Roman Abramovich, was born in Saratov, Russia.
French fashion designer, Christian Dior, died at the age of 52.
Walt Disney testified to the House of Unamerican Activities Committee, actually naming employees he believed to be communists. It is a dark chapter of his life, which has followed Walt Disney even after his death.
French, Louis Renault, died at the age of 67. He was a staunch industrialist and one of the foremost pioneers of the automobile industry. He built his first car in 1898.
The stock market of the New York Stock Exchange crashed. In what is known as "Black Thursday" the market crashed in an event that is considered by many historians the prelude of the great depression.
The football club, Sheffield F.C., was founded in Sheffield, England. It is one of the worlds first football clubs and the oldest one still in existence.
Italian composer, Alessandro Scarlatti, passed away at the age of 65. He was one of the most famous Baroque composers of his time.
