The Today Show premiered on the NBC channel. Still running today (2006), it is the second longest running show in American television.
American actress, Faye Dunaway, was born in Florida. She is one of the most celebrated actresses of the 20th century.
A strong earthquake hit Kingston, Jamaica resulting in the death of more than 1,000 people.
Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca premiered in Rome, Italy.
Ottoman Sultan, Mehmed VI, was born in Constantinople. He was the 36th and last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
French painter, Berthe Morisot, was born in Cher, France. She was one of the most influential impressionist painters of the 19th century.
The clarinet was invented in Nuremberg, Germany by Johann Christoph Denner.
