The Rosetta Stone was discovered in the Egyptian village of Rosetta, by French Captain Pierre-Francois Bouchard. It was created in 196 BC and is considered as one of the most significant archaeological finds of modern times as it contained the same text in two Egyptian language scripts (hieroglyphic and demotic) and in classical Greek, thus allowing for the translation of the first which had been previously impossible. |
