Pope Benedict XVI was born in Bavaria. He was elected as the 265th Pope on April 19th 2005.

American physicist, Martin Lewis Perl, was born in New York. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1995 for his discovery of the tau lepton.

American actress, Janet Leigh, was born in California. She was best known for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho. She was also the mother of actress Jamie Lee Curtis, from her marriage to her third husband, Tony Curtis.

85 protesters were killed by the Austrian police in Vienna. The victims were members of the Austrian Socialist party.

English actor, Roger Moore, was born in Stockwell, England. He is best known for his roles as, Simon Templar in the hit television series "The Saint" (1962 - 1969), and as James Bond in the hit film series (1973 to 1985).

American actor, George C. Scott, was born in Virginia, USA. He is best remembered for his portrayal of General George S. Patton in the movie, Patton, as well as his portrayal of General Buck Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove.

Leon Trotsky was expelled from the Soviet Communist Party after a power struggle between him and Joseph Stalin.
December

Leon Trotsky was expelled from the Communist party and subsequently exiled from the Soviet Union.
