The last episode of the US radio show, The Howard Stern Show, was broadcast. The show, which started in 1978 and is one of radio's most successful shows, continues to broadcast over subscription based satellite radio.
1997 
An episode of the popular cartoon, Pokemon, caused epilepsy attacks on over 600 children in Japan.
1982 
British engineer, Colin Chapman, died at the age of 64. He was on of the most innovative automobile engineers of the world, whose ideas and concepts can still be seen in the industry. He was the founder of the sports cars company Lotus.
1971 
German DJ and producer, Paul van Dyk, was born in Eisenhuettenstadt, (then) East Germany. His real name is Matthias Paul and he is widely considered as one of the leading Dj's and producers of electronic (trance) music.
1971 
The PakistanI army surrendered to India effectively ending the war for independence of Bangladesh and the Indo-Pakistani War. It was a crushing defeat for Pakistan.
1960 
During a severe snowstorm over New York's Idlewild Airport, a United Airlines jet collided with a TWA jet resulting in the death of 134 people.
1922 
The president of Poland, Gabriel Narutowicz, was assassinated.
1916 
Russian monk, Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, died at the age of 47. Considered by many a madman he was a highly controversial figure in pre Soviet Russia. Though his life was filled with controversy, he was close to Tsar Nicholas II, his wife and their only son, Alexei. He was assassinated by Nobles of Russia, because of the influence he had over the Royal Russian family.
1866 
Russian painter, Wassily Kandinsky, was born in Moscow. He is one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. He took painting lessons for the first time at the age of 30.
1773 
The event known as the 'Boston Tea Party' took place when workers dumped crates filled with tea into Boston harbour as an act of protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act allowed the British East India Company to sell tea to the British colonies without the application of any colonial taxes, thereby making it impossible for colonial merchants to compete.
1770 
German composer, Ludwig van Beethoven, was born in Bonn. He is widely considered as one of history's greatest composers. By the age of 28 he had began loosing his hearing.
