Austrian psychiatrist, Sigmund Freud, died at the age of 83. He was educated as a neurologist and is considered the father of psychoanalysis. In 1933, as the Nazis seized power in Germany, Freud's books were burnt publicly, actions which prompted him to move to England. He had been diagnosed with and treated numerous times for cancer of the mouth and had his jaw removed. He lived with constant pain, which at the end proved to be intolerable for him. His death was caused by a physician assisted morphine overdose. |
