	February 11th	Canadian actor, Leslie Nielsen, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He is best known for his role in the spoof comedies Airplane! and The Naked Gun series.
	March 13th	Argentinean politician, Raul Alfonsin, was born in the town of Chascomus. He served as Argentina's president between 1983 and 1989.
	March 16th	American comedian, Jerry Lewis, was born in Newark, New Jersey. He has been one of the most known comedy faces of 20th century America and is most known for his legendary show pairing with fellow comedian Dean Martin.
	April 9th	American publisher, Hugh Hefner, was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was the founder and publisher of Playboy magazine.
	April 13th	Greek actress, Ellie Lampeti, was born in Vilia, Attika. She was one of Greece's most celebrated actresses.
	May 8th	British naturalist, Sir David Attenborough, was born in London, England. He is probably the worlds best known naturalists. He has created some of the most famous nature documentaries which he has written and presented himself.
	June 1st	American entertainment icon, Marilyn Monroe, was born in the county of Los Angeles. She was one of the twentieth-century's most famous entertainment figures.
	June 28th	American filmmaker, Mel Brooks, was born in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known as a creator of comedy parodies, such as Blazing Saddles, History of the World and Young Frankenstein.
	July 20th	The Methodist Church began accepting women in the ranks of its priesthood.
	August 3rd	American singer, Tony Bennett, was born in Astoria, Queens, New York City.
	August 13th	Cuban politician, Fidel Castro, was born in Biran. He was the leader of the 1959 revolution which overthrew Fulgencio Batista and the de facto leader of the country since that time.
	August 14th	French comic book author, Rene Goscinny, was born in Paris. He is best known for having been the co-author of the worldwide popular comic books, Asterix and Lucky Luke.
	August 22nd	Gold was discovered in Johannesburg, South Africa for the first time. South Africa is one of the biggest producers of gold in the world.
	August 23th	Italian actor, Rudolph Valentino, died at the age of 31. He was probably the first male sex symbol in the history of cinema. He died due to complications incurred from an ulcer surgery.
	October 14th	The children's book Winnie-the-Pooh, by A.A. Milne, was first published.
	October 18th	American musician, Chuck Berry, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He is considered as one of the pioneers of rock & roll music.
	October 18th	German actor, Klaus Kinski, was born in Sopot, Poland. He is most remembered for his participation in the internationally acclaimed films, Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), and Fitzcarraldo (1982). He is the father of actress, Nastassja Kinski.
	October 31st	Magician, Harry Houdini, died at the age of 51. He died from peritonitis which had developed after his appendix ruptured.
	December 5th	The movie, Battleship Potemkin, premiered. It was directed by Sergei Eisenstein and has been labeled as one of the most important and influential films of all time.
	December 25th	Hirohito became Emperor of Japan, succeeding Emperor Taisho.
