In the year 1902

	February 27th	American writer, John Steinbeck, was born in California. He is considered as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. His most known novel was 'Of Mice and Men' and he was the recipient of the both the Nobel prize for literature and the Pulitzer prize.
	March 6th	The Spanish football club Real Madrid was founded.
	March 17th	American golfer, Bobby Jones, was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest golfers of the 20th century.
	May 8th	The Mount Pelee volcano erupted in the island of Martinique. The eruption destroyed the town of St. Pierre and killed over 30,000 people.
	May 20th	Cuba gained its independence from the United States. The United States had occupied the island after the Spanish-American War of 1898.
