January
31st
The United States government ordered all Native Americans to reside into reservations. Native American were not citizens of the United State until 1924.
February
22nd
Johns Hopkins University was founded in Baltimore, Maryland.
March
7th
American inventor, Alexander Graham Bell, was granted a patent for the telephone.
August
1st
Colorado became the 38th US state.
October
31st
A huge cyclone hit the Megna River Delta in the Indian city of Backergunge. The cyclone and the huge waves it produced resulted in over 200,000 deaths. Half of the people drowned from the flooding which has been reported to had reached 12 meters high. The rest died from the diseases that resulted from the flooding.
