In the year 1872

	February 20th	The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened in New York City. it is one of the most famous and visited museums in the world.
	March 7th	Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian, was born in Amersfoort, Netherlands. He is widely acknowledged as one of the most important painters of the late 19th and early 20th century.
	November 9th	A huge fire destroyed approximately 800 buildings in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. It has since been known as the Great Boston Fire of 1872.
