In the year 1849

	January 23th	Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman doctor in the United States after receiving her diploma from the Medical Institute of Geneva, New York.
	April 13th	Hungary became a republic.
	October 17th	Polish-French composer, Frederic Chopin, died at the age of 39 due to pulmonary tuberculosis. He is generally acknowledged as one of the greatest piano composers of all time.
