In the year 1845

	March 1st	The United States annexed the Republic of Texas.
	March 3rd	Florida was admitted as the 27th U.S. state.
	March 30th	The Republic of Texas joined the United States as its 28th state with the name Texas.
	August 28th	The first issue of Scientific American magazine was published. Still published today, it is the oldest continuously published magazine in the United States.
	December 24th	King George I of Greece was born in Copenhagen. He was king from 1863 to 1913, making his the longest reign in Greece.
