American author, Ralph Waldo Emerson, was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the founder of the Transcendentalism movement in literature.
October
2nd
American revolutionary leader, Samuel Adams, died at the age of 81. He was one of the chief architects of the American revolution.

20th
The purchase of Louisiana was ratified by the United States Senate. It was purchased from France for 15 million USD. The territory amounted to far more than what is today the state of Louisiana, and at that time was land equalling almost a third of what is today the United States of America.
December
11th
French composer, Hector Berlioz, was born in La Cote-Saint-Andre, France. he was a French Romantic composer best known for the Symphonie fantastique.
