In the year 1789

	January 23th	Georgetown University was founded.
	February 4th	George Washington was elected to be the first President of the United States by the US Electoral College.
	April 30th	George Washington was sworn in as the first elected President of the United States.
	August 7th	The United States War Department was established.
	November 21st	North Carolina became the 12th state of the U.S.
