The event known as the 'Boston Tea Party' took place when workers dumped crates filled with tea into Boston harbour as an act of protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act allowed the British East India Company to sell tea to the British colonies without the application of any colonial taxes, thereby making it impossible for colonial merchants to compete. |
