2004 
A suicide bomber detonated his/her explosives in the Moscow metro, killing 40 and injuring more than 100 people.
1996 
A Turkish Airlines passenger jet crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of the Dominican Republic, resulting in the death of 189 people.
1985 
Steve Wozniak left Apple Computer. Along with Steve Jobs he was one of the two founders of the Apple Computer company. Although he left the company he remains one of the principal stock holders and has since then been employed as a grade school teacher.
1978 
One of the worst blizzards in the history of New England, USA, hit the region resulting in unprecedented snowfall and sever cold conditions which killed 17 people and damaged thousands of houses throughout the states of new England.
1968 
The 10th Winter Olympic Games opened in Grenoble, France.
1958 
The plane that was carrying the Manchester United FC players and staff crashed in Munich airport as it was attempting to take off. 23 members of the mission died, including eight players.
1952 
Elizabeth II became Queen after the death of her father King George VI.
1950 
American singer, Natalie Cole, was born in Los Angeles. She is the daughter of the famous musician, Nat King Cole.
1912 
German, Eva Braun, was born in Munich. She is known for having been the mistress of Adolf Hitler. Braun and Hitler committed suicide together on the 30th of April 1945, as Berlin was falling.
1911 
American politician, Ronald Reagan, was born in Illinois. At 69 years old he was the oldest person to be elected president of the United States. On March 30th 1980, he survived an assassination attempt, although he was struck by the assailant's bullets.
1895 
Baseball player, Babe Ruth, was born in Baltimore. He is widely considered as the greatest baseball player in history.
1820 
The first African American immigrants settled what is today Liberia.
1819 
Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles founded Singapore as a trading post for the East India Trading Company.
