	January 8th	British author, Dennis Wheatley, was born in London. He was one of the world's best-selling authors in the 1950s and 1960s, best known for his occult novels.
	April 3rd	German composer, Johannes Brahms, died at the age of 64 in Vienna, Austria.
	April 5th	Start of the 30 day war between Turkey and Greece.
	May 26th	Bram Stoker's, landmark novel, Dracula went on sale in London.
	August 11th	British author, Enid Blyton, was born in London. She was a children's books author who became one of the most popular writers in history. Her books have been translated to more than 100 languages.
	August 31st	American inventor, Thomas Edison, was awarded the patent for the Kinetoscope, the first movie projector.
	September 1st	The subway of Boston, Massachusetts opened, it was the first underground metro in North America.
	November 1st	Italian football team Juventus F.C. was founded.
	November 24th	American gangster, Lucky Luciano, was born in the village of Lercara Friddi, Italy. He is one of the most known gangsters of all time, second in notoriety only to Al Capone, although Luciano's impact on the world of organized crime is considered far more significant than capone's ever was.
	December 6th	The first motorised taxi began to operate in the city of London, England.
	December 28th	The play, Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand, premiered in Paris.
