King Louis XVI of France was arrested and taken into custody by French revolutionaries. His arrest marked (and subsequent execution, months later) the end of absolutism in France. |

During the period of the French Revolution, rampaging mobs kill three Roman Catholic Church bishops and more than two hundred priests in what has been known in history as the September Massacres. |

Construction of the White House began. |

Following the break of the French revolution, King Louis XVI was put on trial for treason. He was found guilty and was executed on 21 January 1793. |
