April
19th
The trial of Bridget Bishop began in Salem, Massachusetts. She was accused of practicing witchcraft and was the first person to be executed as the result of the witch hunt trials that occurred in Salem.
June
24th
The city of Kingston, Jamaica was founded.
July
19th
Five women were hanged after having been found guilty of practicing witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. Overall 20 people were executed as a result of the Salem Witch trials and more than 150 imprisoned.
September
22nd
The last hangings for witchcraft took place in the United States.
